Considering me and my bestie Sammy only work a five minute walk from each other in the city we very rarely make the most of what is on our doorstep, so last month we put a date in our diaries for dinner and drinks after work. It was the day before (Wednesday 2nd May) that we realised we didn’t actually book anywhere to go! Sammy suggested we try the Italian Restaurant at The Ned as she loves nothing more than a good Spag Bowl. Luckily we managed to get a table last minute for 6PM…
We met at 4.45 and went straight there to have a few drinks at the bar before we sat down to eat. When we first walked in we didn’t know where to look the whole building is stunning! There are velvet seats, barmen doing cocktail tricks, marble table tops, big green plants and giant retro chequered floors; the vibe is just amazing from the second you walk in. Plus right in the middle of it all is a raised band stand which had a Jazz singer performing as we arrived with such a beautiful voice we just wanted to chill and listen to him. The performers change during the night, we saw three different singers in the 4 hours we were there, all great signers with musicians!
I was surprised how busy the bars were at 5PM but we were lucky enough to grab a seat as someone was leaving (I love it when that happens). We had a quick drink and catch up before going to Cecconi’s to be seated for dinner. After debating for ages what to have I decided on the Parma ham pizza whilst Sammy (as predicted) went for the Spaghetti Bolognese. I would recommend them both as they were so delicious! After dinner we finished our drinks and enjoyed the live band and buzz of the bar before deciding we needed one last drink before setting home. Luckily directly over the road is a great rooftop bar & restaurant called Coq D ’Argent, so we had a quick drink for the road whilst watching the sun staring to set, so romantic I know!
So if you are looking for a nice dinner spot with a great buzzy bar then give definitely go to The Ned!
MORE INFORMATION ON THE NED:
This extraordinary development – 252-bedroom hotel, nine restaurants, roof terrace bar, two pools, a spa – comes from Soho House & Co with US boutique hotel group Sydell (NoMad, Saguaro). In an interview, Ned supremo Nick Jones – yep, still chortling – said that after his “art house” Soho Houses, this is “my chance to do a blockbuster”. Read full article here.
